Everybody knows that one of the most embarrassing ways of hair removal is epilators. When the first devices were launched in the ‘80s, they had been truly instruments of torture, a row of multiple tweezers that ripped out hair at the root with no idea for pain reduction and spun around. But things have come a long way since that time. If your only experience with epilation is trying out your mom’s decades-old device (or hearing horror stories from other folks who’ve used them in the past) it may be time to revisit the newer electric beauty gadgets, which are a great deal more complex and much less painful.

Why You Should Epilate?
Epilation removes the hair giving you much longer-lasting results compared to surface-removal methods such as shaving or depilatory creams. The major distinction between epilation and waxing is that contemporary epilators can catch much shorter hairs, meaning less waiting time (and regrowth) between treatments. As an added bonus, epilators only grab hairs, not skin won’t remove fake tan.

How To Manage Epilator Pain?
As some ad campaigns would have you believe, epilating is not painless, I am not going to lie. But is is the encounter. Though I’ve never been a epilator, I have used various devices through the years and have seen the industry move on dramatically. The more you do it, the more you can stand it, although it hurts a lot to begin with. To assist you work out if it is for you, as a novice, I ran through the primary hair-removal places and recorded the pain level out of 10 (where 0 is no pain at all, 5 can totally do this and 10 is I give up, this is too much). Concerning device, I used the Braun Silk-épil 9 (#180), which is one of the more expensive options, but includes a whole host of additional attachments and gadgets to make epilating a simpler process.

Effective your epilation is going to be probably depends on how much hair you want to remove. I was surprised by how much I could tolerate the pain. I’d still give it a 7 or 8 out of 10: you definitely have to brace yourself and be prepared for some sharp tugs, but if you make sure that the hair is trimmed first, you can minimize pain, and it is not impossible. The epilator I use has a trimmer head which can be used for this purpose.

For me the difficulty comes in directing what is quite a large device to remove hairs in places that are more intimate. If you’re just looking to clean up your bikini line, it’s really great and a handy alternative for a wax if you’re too lazy, shy, or short on time. If you’re used to a Brazilian or Hollywood wax, you will need to be at contorting yourself into positions that are odd pretty good. The best way to test epilating the bikini area is to find a wax, then use an epilator. I managed to use a mix of trimmer/electric razor and the epilator to get results very similar to a full bikini wax. Beyond this, I think there is a probability of grabbing skin, not hair.

Follow these guidelines to get the epilator experience.

1. Trim hair first with clippers to prevent the strands from clogging the rotating tweezers. The stubble should be at most 14 long so the teeth may grasp the hairs .
2. If you move the epilator the pain will be intense. It will require more attempts if you move it quickly over the skin. Regardless of what, get over the hurdle of inflicting self-induced pain.
3. The muscles in this bikini area cannot keep the skin taut. With one hand holding the epilator, use another to maintain the skin as level as possible so it will not get pinched and damaged by the teeth.
4. Avoid using a epilator that is wet in the tub or shower since you will need to find out what you’re doing down there.
5. 1 advantage of epilating is the re-growing hair is not and thicker bristly and that stubble is avoided. Be sure to use hair conditioner to maintain the hairs that are emerging are soft and healthy.
6. The skin will be tender and the hair follicles may be swollen. Try a soothing aloe vera cream to cool the pores. Avoid using rubbing after-shave or alcohol unless you are a glutton for pain.
